Japan contains Fuji Speedway, a globally-known racetrack in the Mount Fuji. Fuji Speedway has one of the longest straights in motorsport tracks, at 1.475 km (0.917 mi) in length. In the past, as recently as 2008, Fuji Speedway has hosted the Japanese Grand Prix Formula 1 event. The main track layout currently has a spectator seating capacity of 110000 seats, but had a past peak capacity of 140000 seats.

Cars and car parts manufactured in Japan for the Japanese market are consider JDM, or Japanese Domestic Market. Enthusiasts like to import these due to some of them having unique features, such as right-hand-drive layout cars, engines not offered in other regions, or parts only available on Japanese trim options.
