The Firebird (often just called a Trans Am, when built with that model's equipment) was built by Pontiac. It often shared the same GM-designed chassis as a similar Chevrolet sports car, the Camaro. It is well known in the United States for its pheonix logo with firey wings, which was a factory option painted on the hood for some of the models, especially the Trans Am.

Trim Levels
Production of the Firebird ended in 2002, about the time Pontiac was working on their new GTO sports car. Some aftermarket companies produce a body kit for the 2008+ Chevrolet Camaro which converts it into their interpretation of what the new Firebird would have looked like if Pontiac was still around to make it.
Trans AM
The Trans Am was a popular trim level for the Firebird. Many just refer to these cars as a "Pontiac Trans Am" around other people familiar with cars. Many of them are equipped with a Ram Air hood scoop, and some are available as convertibles. This trim level always came with the largest engine option.
