Cars Simplified: Everything Automotive Explained

Lucid Motors

Lucid Motors is an electric car manufacturer founded by Bernard Tse, Sam Weng, and Sheaupyng Lin.

Lucid Air

The first car produced by Lucid Motors is the Air, an electric luxury sedan. Announced in December 2016 and sold starting in 2021, it has been designed to compete with the Fisker Karma, the Tesla Model S, the Porsche Taycan, as well as other luxury electric vehicles produced by Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

Multiple drivetrain layouts are available for the Air, with rear-motor, rear-wheel-drive in the Air Pure, dual-motor, all-wheel-drive in the Air Touring, Grand touring, and Dream edition, and a powerful triple-motor, all-wheel-drive set-up on the Sapphire.

Production of the Air began on September 28, 2021.

Packaging Perfection: Lucid Embarrasses The Competition by

The Lucid Air designed a really clever car, with careful consideration for what goes where to optimize space. In this video, Jason Fenske climbs inside a frunk to prove it.

Jason's Thoughts

"Packaging is arguably one of the most challenging aspects of automotive design. Good packaging is the result of a wholistic approach of collaborative design, efficiency, and minimalism. In my opinion, there's never been a car that better reflects this approach than the Lucid Air; it fits an astonishing amount of cargo space and passenger space within a fairly compact footprint. Simultaneously, it has the lowest energy consumption on the highway of any production car sold today in the United States, with a 140 mpge rating. How have they done it? Lucid Gravity

The second car produced by Lucid Motors is the Gravity. It is an all-electric SUV. The company's Casa Grande, Arizona AMP-1 factory is being expanded to handle the production.

Steve's Thoughts

"Expanding into another vehicle category is vital for Lucid Motors. While the Air was a smart choice for a first model, with its more aerodynamic shape, SUVs are a vital category in the North American market." -
