The Fiero was an inexpensive mid-engined sports car built by Pontiac from 1984 to 1988. It was the first and only mass-produced mid-engine sports car by a manufacturer in the United States of America. In addition, the 1984 Fiero beat out the new 1984 Chevrolet Corvette to take the role of the Official Pace Car of the Indianapolis 500 for that year. The internal designation for the chassis that the Fiero used was the P-Body.
Although it had reliability and performance issues when it was originally sold, the Fiero has become a popular car for modifications, such as kit cars and electric conversions. Many Ferrari and Lamborghini look-alikes are build using a Fiero chassis.
The Fiero was available in SE and GT trim levels. The GT marked the higher-performance model each year, usually being equipped with a V6.
