The original company, Automobiles E. Bugatti, was formed in 1909 as a manufacturer of high-performance automobiles by Ettore Bugatti. The modern company (Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S.) is a revival by Volkswagen, which bought the rights to use the Bugatti name in December of 2000.
