Two stroke engines have half the strokes of a traditional four-stroke engine. The design is inefficent in many ways, but the trade-off (a lot of power in a small engine) makes it favored for use in small vehicles like lawnmowers, go-karts, chainsaws, and other personal work tools/vehicles.
